Leadership in the Lord             August 30, 2010

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

They tried to intimidate Nehemiah into not continuing with the building of the wall around Jerusalem.  The enemies of Israel used ridicule to discourage the Israelites.  Satan had used greed to undermine the unity and resolve of the people.  Now they tried to fill Nehemiah with fear of the king so that he would be paralyzed into inactivity.  Nehemiah turned to the Lord in prayer, “Now strengthen my hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9)

Nehemiah has displayed great leadership in carrying out this massive project of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.  Nothing came easily.  But he remained firm because he looked to the Lord.  He had the inner strength to be a great leader because the Lord was his strength.  He could stand fearless and hopeful because the Lord renewed his heart.

We all are called to various rolls of leadership. We can display leadership qualities even if we are in a supportive roll.  Are you facing some discouraging situations?  Confronted with some intimidating circumstances?  Unity to accomplish a significant task dissolving?

Learn from Nehemiah – go to the Lord for your strength and hope. While every outcome is ultimately in his hands, our trust in him can lift our spirits, deepen our resolve and renew us to face a new day with new challenges.  Begin your new week with his prayer, “Now strengthen my hands.”

We pray
Forgive me when I tried to lead without your power and will.  Strengthen my heart in you so that I can then face the difficulties before me.  Amen

Today's Bible reading is:  Nehemiah 5 - 7:3   Psalm 71
